I am very fortunate to have such a rewarding job. I meet some lovely people who, no matter what life has thrown at them, just get on and deal with it. They are often described as courageous, which undoubtedly they are, but mostly they don’t think of themselves as especially courageous, but coping with each challenge as it comes their way. Many embrace a nutritional and lifestyle change, not an easy thing to do. We try to support cancer patients and their carers on many different levels. The Thursday group, which is very much a self support group, is usually well attended especially when we have speakers visiting the group.

Nutritional advice is available once a month. Another regular visit is Kathy Adams teaching the Emotional Freedom Technique which can provide relief from the many stresses and anxiety of living with cancer as well as helping with managing pain and other physical symptoms. We have had visits from Steve Taylor, a qualified Medical Herbalist, who has given the group a lot of information on herbs which can help with side effects of cancer and treatments, as well as giving us tastes of delicious teas to balance the body. A Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist has visited us regularly to talk about prevention, recognition and treatment of this very unpleasant condition. Pat Adams from the Chichester Organic Gardening Club gave us a very informative talk and also provided delicious organic juice and foods to sample and take home. Dorothye Parker has talked about flower essences and their qualities as well as giving an introduction to colour therapy. We try to do a few “fun” things as well and our Xmas meeting was at the lovely Denman’s Garden Centre where we had a good chat and a laugh. Our Art Group under the guidance of John Read continues and provides relaxation and fun as well as fantastic art work. Please contact the Centre if you would like an up to date programme or check our Web Site.

Fund Raising

As always we need to look continually at ways to raise funds for the Centre. Now, under the guidance of our new Director Marnie Duval, we are into a new year of fund raising. If any of you would like to join the team please contact me at the Centre.

We have a number of events planned and hopefully there will be something to suit everyone. We hope we can count on your support at one or other of the events. Do check our web site or check with the Centre to see what is going on.

Supermarket collections are continuing – we could always do with more collectors – please contact me if you think you can help.
