Help Conquer Cancer project announcement:

World Community Grid takes great pleasure in announcing its newest research project: Help Conquer Cancer, sponsored by the Ontario Cancer Institute in Canada.The mission of Help Conquer Cancer is to improve the results of protein X-ray crystallography, which helps researchers not only annotate parts of the human proteome, but importantly improves their understanding of cancer initiation, progression, and treatment. HOW TO JOIN AND START USING THE WORLD COMMUNITY GRID

1. Go to this website - http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/
2. Select the Become a Member - Join Now option
3. Complete the registration page.This requires you to select a user name and password, and to give your email address.Then you need to select a country (UK) and a team (cancerwise). Next, choose your project - we recommend you un-tick all projects except Help Conquer Cancer. Finally, tick the End User Software License Agreement box and click Continue.
4. On the Download page select the BOINC for Windows option if you are a Windows user, or make a different choice if you use other than Windows. Select the Save option.
5. When download of the BOINC client software is complete, go to where it was saved on your PC and double-click it to start the installation process, following the instructions on the Install page.
6.At the end of the installation process select the Single User option and then make sure you tick the option to launch the BOINC client when logging on
7. After installation is complete the BOINC client will spend a bit of time setting itself up and downloading some projects for it to work on.
8. We recommend you use the default Preferences, which will ensure that the work on Help Conquer Cancer projects works securely in the background, in no way affecting your own use of your PC.
9. From time to time the BOINC client will automatically upload completed work and download more projects to work on. There will be a blue icon in your system tray. If you right-click this and choose the Open option, you can see the work that it is currently doing, has recently completed, and has waiting to do.
10. If you want to see how much you have contributed to the World Community Grid, go to the website, login and choose My Grid. It takes a day or so for your work to be registered as 'points'.
11. If you want to see how the CancerWise team is doing, go to the website, login and choose Statistics, By Teams, Teams Created and search for CancerWise.

Note to Vista users. At the present time Windows Defender blocks the BOINC client at start up and there appears to be no way to prevent this. After start up you need to click Windows Defender in the system tray and choose the option to run the blocked program.
